The 2009 Chrysler Aspen Hybrid
Those looking for a big SUV capable of hauling 8 passengers and towing capacity over 6,000 lbs (2,700 kg) will be very pleased. Chrysler’s Aspen is now available in Canada in Hybrid configuration.
Yeah, it’s got a Hemi. Rather than installing a small four cylinder to be supplemented with electrical power, Chrysler chose to combine two-mode “full hybrid” technology with its popular 5.7-liter Hemi V-8, which already had cylinder-deactivation technology to help maximize low-load fuel economy.
As full hybrids, the Aspen can be driven solely on electric power below 40 kilometres per hour, solely on the gas engine to help charge the battery, or a combination of both. This allows the drive train to maintain power without consuming more fuel. According to Chrysler, the Aspen will be 25 percent more economical and should save most owners approximately $1,000 in fuel a year.
Standard equipment includes leather interior, heated front seats, dual-zone climate-control system, power adjustable pedals, one-touch power windows, door locks, Sirius satellite radio, tilt steering, power seats with memory, and three 12-volt power outlets.
With all the seats folded, there’s 2,898 litres of interior cargo room and a four-by-eight-foot sheet of plywood will just fit in between the wheel wells. It rides on 18-inch wheels and tires and has four-wheel disc brakes, and a full complement of front, side, and side-curtain airbags.
The 2009 Chrysler Aspen HEMI Hybrid is on sale now and will start at $55,995.
