Compressed air - the traditional medium for tire inflation - contains both nitrogen and oxygen molecules. A tire is essentially a rubber membrane through which these molecules permeate. Unfortunately, oxygen leaks up to four times faster than nitrogen. Oxygen also oxidizes the rubber compounds in tires, causing deterioration from the inside out.

Regular compressed air is also typically prone to condensation, foreign particulates, and other contaminates. Once inside a tire, these can cause further deterioration to the rubber compounds, rim, and valve stem core. If all this leakage, oxidation, and deterioration goes unchecked, under-inflation occurs, creating a host of problems such as excessive tire wear, reduced gas mileage, or worse... the risk of dangerous blow-outs.

Government and industry studies suggest roughly 60 percent of tire blow-outs are caused by under-inflated tires. When you consider that an estimated four of every five vehicles on the road today are riding on under-inflated tires, there's danger all around us.

Nitrogen is the clean, inert gas that comprises 78 percent of the air we breathe. Not only is nitrogen abundantly available, it's also a safe, more beneficial alternative to regular compressed air.

Nitrogen makes tires perform better, last longer, and function with a greater degree of safety than tires inflated with regular compressed air.

Enhanced Safety - Tires filled with nitrogen maintain their pressure up to 40% longer than regular compressed air, which means greater handling, control, and grip, minimizing the danger of catastrophic road failure.
Longer Tire Life - Industry field tests suggest tires inflated with nitrogen can last up to 30% longer. Since nitrogen is a clean, moisture-free gas, it slows down internal tire oxidation, which slows down the aging of your tires.
Better Fuel Economy - With improved tire inflation comes improved gas mileage - by as much as 6%.

Even with nitrogen in your tires, it's still important to check your tire pressure periodically. So, the next time you pull in for routine service, have your tires checked and re-inflated or topped off with nitrogen.

It's a very simple, accessible, and affordable process that pays dividends in terms of enhanced safety, better fuel economy, and longer tire life.
